Google launches SOS Alerts to keep people safe with real-time disaster alerts!
Google wants people to easily access executable information in times of crisis. So the Internet giant launched a new feature to help Internet users instantly and effortlessly know how to stay safe in a natural disaster.
This initiative, called SOS Alerts, will provide many search and mapping aids, showcase top local news and information, emergency lines and websites, as well as various translations of useful terms and phrases.
Users in the vicinity of affected areas can also receive notifications on their mobile devices that direct them to the same information.
This new functionality will also make it easier for non-affected users to find relevant information in times of crisis. Searches for affected events or locations will send alert alerts that provide an overview in a timely manner.
Maps will be updated with similar features as well. To provide these detailed, real-time reports, Google has partnered with several emergency assistance agencies, including prominent organizations such as the Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
With the introduction of the SOS Alerts feature, Google now has four products in its current line of emergency technology, including applications such as Person Finder, Crisis Map and Public Alerts.
Facebook has long been working on its own emergency features with Safety Check functionality. However, we hope that the Google solution will do a better job of targeting the victims of real disasters than Facebook.
